Vung Tau is famous as a beach resort. Road transfer from Ho Chi Minh city takes about two hours, but for something a little more luxurious, you can make the journey by speedboat. There are two main beaches here; the Back Beach (Bãi Sau) is the most popular, and can be reached easily, but the Front Beach (Bãi Trước) is bigger and considered to be more beautiful.
There is a variety of accommodation to be found in Vung Tau; some are local in style, but others are more superior – for example, the Anoasis Vung Tau Resort is ideally situated on a hill above the town, with many of the individual villas having commanding views. There is also a long private beach and a pool, and a top-class restaurant.
If you are seeking a relaxing break, why not try a spa experience? The Imperial Hotel Spa is conveniently located near the beach, so you can enjoy the scenic views whilst you are being pampered, and provides a range of treatments.
Alternatively, you could try your hand at water sports. The Vung Tau Beach Club provides tuition in surfing and kite-surfing, or you could spend the day fishing at the Hai Luc Fishing Club.
Naturally, there are many sights to be seen in Vung Tau. The White Villa, the former governor’s residence, has a house and large gardens. The local lighthouse offers panoramic views of the areas, and if you are feeling energetic, take a walk to the giant statue of Jesus (32m high) on the Nui Nho mountain, where you can also see outstanding views. Or take the opportunity to visit the lively local market, with it’s incredible variety of food available, or take a stroll around the seashore and view the local fishermen at work.
So, compare the prices of deals between travel companies, and you could treat yourself to an exotic destination at an affordable price.
