The idea to make surfing competition in Vung Tau came to the heads of “Global Watersports Company” owners some years ago. It takes near 3 years to make a dream come true.
In November 2008 Peoples Committee of Baria Vungtau Province agreed the schedule of this event and the program of Vungtau Surfing Festival was approved.
The program included surfing and kitesurfing competitions, surfing photo and video contest, rock concerts. More then 30 athletes were registered on official site of competitions – www.vnkite.com and a lot of spectaculars came to Vungtau to watch this competitions.
The first day of Festival 2nd of January, starts from Opening Ceremony with a speeches form Department of Sport, Tourism and Culture, from Vungtautourist Chairman and Manager of Global Watersports Company.
After official part rock concert right on the beach was held. Two famous Vietnamese rock bands – Black Infinity and Titanium were playing till late making crazy all who came this night to the beach.
Some athletes up their kites and jump right onto stage reminding everybody that this is a surfing party, but they were quickly removed by police and security.
After one day surfing competition starts. There were 15 athletes from Vietnam, Australia, Russia and Ukraine.
After some hours of competitions there were only 4 surfers who reach a final – two guys from Vietnam, one Australian and one Ukrainian.
Telling true James from Australia showed the most active and beautiful riding, but unlucky for him Konstantin and Hoa caught more waves and with longer riding time.
In result 1 prize got Konstantin Roginsky,
second Hoa, and third was James.
Next day kitesurfing competitions were scheduled, but unfortunately there were no wind till the last day of Festival 7th of January. That is why kitesurfing competitions were delayed till the end of February 2009.
And as culmination of this event the band from Singapore – “Curtis King” showed everybody what is real Rock & Roll !!
